Both sides started at full throttle, trading attacks while keeping their shape, but the match’s defining moments came late in normal time.
Senegal thought they had won it in stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out. Moments later, Morocco were awarded a controversial penalty, prompting furious protests and a brief walk-off by the Senegal players before they returned to complete the match.

Real Madrid forward Brahim Díaz stepped up with the chance to hand the hosts the trophy, but his Panenka attempt was saved by Edouard Mendy, sending the game into extra time.
Four minutes later, Pape Gueye thundered in a long-range strike that finally broke the deadlock. Morocco pushed hard for an equaliser, but Senegal’s defence held firm.
After the final, CAF handed out the tournament awards, with no Nigerian player making the list. Nigeria won bronze medal at the tournament after beating Egypt on penalties in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
