Victor Osimhen’s touchline outburst during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique at AFCON 2025 continues to generate reactions, even as the Super Eagles prepare for the quarter finals, Footynaija.com reports.
The incident, which saw a heated exchange between Osimhen and Ademola Lookman in the second half, took the spotlight off what was otherwise a dominant Super Eagles performance in the knockout stage.
Osimhen was later subbed off, as cameras caught his frustration while teammates tried to calm him down. While the Super Eagles camp has downplayed the incident and said it’s been handled internally, fans and ex-players have continued to debate his behaviour and leadership during the game.

Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has now weighed in, urging calm and offering a balanced defence of the Galatasaray man while acknowledging that the approach could have been better.
“You guys should calm down over this Victor Osimhen matter. Allow the boys to focus on the next task ahead,” he told reporters.
“What he said was right, but the way the message was delivered was wrong. I have seen players do more than what he did.”
“He should have addressed it in the dressing room, not on the pitch. But these things happen in football; it’s normal. He’s not the first player to do this, and he won’t be the last. Up Eagles.”
Although there were reports claiming Osimhen considered leaving Nigeria’s AFCON camp in Morocco after Monday’s incident, the Galatasaray striker is still very much in the squad and focused on Saturday’s quarter-final clash against Algeria.
He reportedly trained fully with the rest of the team under head coach Eric Chelle on Tuesday evening, showing no signs of tension with Ademola Lookman during the session.
