Ferencvaros were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night after conceding a late equaliser in a hard-fought contest in Budapest, footynaija.com reports.

The Hungarian champions looked on course for a valuable home win when Bamidele Yusuf calmly converted a second-half penalty to put them ahead in the 62nd minute.

The goal continued the Nigerian forward’s impressive form this season, taking his total goal involvements across all competitions to 18 for Ferencvaros.

Before the breakthrough, the hosts had enjoyed the better of the chances and might have been out of sight by the hour mark, only to be let down by poor finishing and some determined Panathinaikos defending.

The visitors, meanwhile, remained patient and always carried a threat on the counter.

That persistence paid off four minutes from time when Anass Zaroury produced a powerful left-footed strike that flew past goalkeeper David Grof to silence the home crowd and earn the Greek side a precious point.

Panathinaikos were without Super Eagles striker Cyril Dessers, who is still recovering from injury.

The result keeps both sides firmly in the hunt in their Europa League group. Ferencvaros continue to chase automatic qualification to the round of 16, while Panathinaikos’ draw maintains their push for a place in the knockout play-off positions.
