FC Porto have confirmed the signing of Nigeria forward Terem Moffi from OGC Nice, with the striker arriving on a season-long loan that includes an option to make the deal permanent for a reported €8m, footynaija.com reports.

The 26-year-old becomes the fifth Nigerian player to represent the Portuguese giants, joining a select list that features Abraham Marcus, Chidozie Awaziem, Mikel Agu and current Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi. Sanusi, who has been at the club since 2020, remains the most established Nigerian in Porto colours, having made more than 140 appearances and scored eight goals.

Moffi leaves OGC Nice as Nigeria’s third greatest goalscorer in the history of the French Ligue 1. The Super Eagles forward fired 54 goals in 148 appearances, only a few goals behind Victor Ikpeba (55 goals) and John Utaka (59).

Moffi’s arrival adds depth and physical presence to Porto’s attacking options as they continue their domestic and European campaigns. The striker will wear the number 29 shirt and reunites with head coach Francesco Farioli, under whom he enjoyed his most productive spell during his time at Nice. He also links up again with midfielder Pablo Rosario, another former team-mate from the French club.

The move comes after a difficult few months for Moffi, who has not featured since late November following an incident involving supporters at Nice. Porto will hope a change of scenery helps the Super Eagles forward rediscover the form that once made him one of Ligue 1’s most feared strikers.

Moffi’s journey to the Estádio do Dragão has been far from straightforward. Born in Calabar, near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon, he left home at 17 to continue his football education in England before beginning his professional career in Lithuania. Prolific spells with Žalgiris Kaunas and FK Riteriai quickly caught the eye, earning him a move to Belgium and later to Lorient in France.

His breakthrough season in Ligue 1 came in 2020-21, when he scored 15 goals and earned his first Nigeria cap. Further success followed, including a strong start to the 2022-23 campaign, before his transfer to Nice. Now, at a club he has already faced in European competition, Moffi will be expected to provide goals, strength and experience as Porto push for silverware.
