Gyökeres or Sesko? Ex-Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni picks who’ll shine in the Premier League

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni, who bagged 96 Premier League goals and 21 for Nigeria, has weighed in on the growing debate over Viktor Gyökeres and Benjamin Šeško, Footynaija.com reports.

The comparison between the two forwards has intensified this season after Gyökeres’ big summer move to Arsenal and Sesko’s high-profile switch to Manchester United.

Speaking to Sportscasting, Yakubu gave a confident verdict on which of the two he believes is better suited to life in England’s top flight.

Yakubu praised Gyökeres’ physical profile and style of play, pointing out why Arsenal’s new signing looks built for Premier League football.

In his words, “I think he’s more physical than Benjamin Sesko at Manchester United. He’ll run the channels. He is quick. You can see he needs time. It’s different when you play in Portugal. The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world but I believe he is really, really solid.”

Gyökeres arrived in England after a productive spell at Sporting CP where he became one of Europe’s most talked-about forwards and won major awards including the George Müller Award.

Yakubu insisted Arsenal have made the right call, adding, “He’s a raw striker. He uses his body and he is unlucky he got injured now, but I think Arsenal have got a striker there in that boy. He is looking good.”

Sesko’s arrival at Manchester United came from a different angle. United activated a deal worth more than £70 million after months of data-driven scouting that focused on his athletic profile, strong aerial ability and long-term potential.

The Slovenian had delivered consistent numbers across his RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig spells before making the Premier League jump, and his signing was widely seen as an investment in future production rather than immediate dominance.
