Former Nigeria international Emmanuel Amuneke has urged Victor Osimhen to power the Super Eagles to AFCON glory in Morocco, insisting titles are won through effort on the pitch rather than word, Footynaija.com reports.
Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, have not lifted the trophy since 2013. That triumph came two years before Amuneke guided a teenage Osimhen to global fame at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile.
Osimhen has since become one of the world’s most feared forwards, leading Napoli to the 2023 Serie A title and winning a league and cup double with Galatasaray earlier this year. However, a major international title with Nigeria has so far eluded him.
Speaking to Victor Modo, Amuneke praised Osimhen’s leadership and mentality, noting his consistency from youth level to the senior stage.
“One thing I can always tell you is that when I look back at Osimhen, the same character he is demonstrating as a leader, is what he has done over the years,” he said.
“I would love them to win the AFCON but they have to win it by fighting and earning it not by talking.”
Nigeria opened their AFCON 2025 campaign with a 2–1 win over Tanzania and sit second in Group C behind Tunisia on goal difference. The Super Eagles face the Carthage Eagles on Saturday night in Fes in a match that could decide the group winner.
All 28 Nigerian players trained on Friday, with no injury concerns ahead of the clash.
