Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is eyeing a deep run in this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign with Galatasaray after firing the Turkish Super Lig champions past top contenders Liverpool on Tuesday night, Footynaija.com reports.
Galatasaray entered matchday two’s UEFA Champions League league phase contest at RAMS Park needing to bounce back from matchday one’s bruising 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. But going up against Premier League champions Liverpool, not many expected them to be able to get a good result.
The Super Lig champions however pulled off what seemed like an impossible feat on the night, digging deep and staying resolute to earn a massive win against the Reds with Osimhen’s 16th minute strike from the spot proving the difference between both sides at full-time.

Speaking after the game, the Nigerian striker, who was making his first Champions League appearance of the season having missed the Frankfurt defeat due to injury, didn’t shy away from declaring Galatasaray’s intention to have a deep run in Europe’s biggest club competition.

“This is the biggest competition in the world, and we want to go far. We really have the quality to make sure that we achieve this objective,” Victor Osimhen said after the game.
“It’s not going to be easy, we have to take each game as it comes. We still have some games coming, and we will be ready. We’ll try to give our all to ensure that we make history with this club.”
After orchestrating one of the biggest wins of matchday two in the Champions League, Galatasaray will now turn their focus to maintaining their perfect start to the Super Lig season. An Istanbul derby against Besiktas awaits and Osimhen will be in contention for his third league start of the season.
So simple, yet so impactful. Well written!
