Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team will be out to redeem themselves when they face France in their second Group D clash at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday evening, Footynaija.com reports.
The Flamingos endured a disappointing start to the tournament, losing 4–1 to Canada despite a promising first-half display.
Their defensive lapses and missed chances proved costly, leaving them bottom of the group.
However, with the expanded format allowing four best third-placed teams to advance, a win over France could still revive Nigeria’s qualification hopes.
France began their campaign brightly with a 4–2 win over Samoa, powered by Thaïs Gallais’ brace and goals from Elena Moreira Da Rocha and Camille Marmillot.
The Europeans sit comfortably atop the group but will remember their last meeting with Nigeria at this level — a tense 2012 quarterfinal that ended 0–0 before France triumphed 5–3 on penalties.
Both sides have plenty at stake. France can seal their passage to the knockout stage with a win, while victory for Nigeria would keep their World Cup dream alive.
