Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has provided a fresh update on striker Super Eagles Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury status following the forward’s early exit in last week’s Europa League encounter against Sturm Graz, Footynaija.com reports.

Iheanacho came off just four minutes into the match after picking up a hamstring problem during Celtic’s 2-1 victory at Celtic Park. His forced substitution left fans concerned about the severity of the issue, with initial fears suggesting he could be sidelined for several weeks.

However, Rodgers has now allayed those concerns, confirming that the injury is not as serious as first anticipated.

“Alistair and Kelechi are probably not as serious as we first thought, but I’m not sure they’ll make Wednesday,” Rodgers said in quotes revealed by The Celtic Way. “So they’ll definitely be a few weeks.”

While the update brings some relief, it also means Iheanacho will not feature in Wednesday’s SPFL clash against Falkirk as he continues his recovery process. The 28-year-old has made an instant impact since joining Celtic in the summer, contributing four goals and assists combined in eight appearances across all competitions.

Iheanacho’s strong start to life in Scotland had reignited discussions about a possible Super Eagles recall ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup play-offs semifinal against Gabon next month. Unfortunately, this latest setback could complicate those plans, with the striker now facing a race against time to prove his fitness before the next international break.

Despite the frustration, Celtic supporters will take comfort in Rodgers’ reassurance that Iheanacho’s injury is not long-term. The Scottish champions will be hoping to have one of their standout performers back in action sooner rather than later as they struggle to regain last season’s dominant form.
