Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche has admitted his disappointment after his side fell 1– 0 to Nigeria in Uyo, saying the Amavubi arrived with a clear plan and detailed statistics on Super Eagles players but still left empty-handed, Footynaija.com reports.

The World Cup qualifier on 6 September was settled by substitute Tolu Arokodare, who struck in the 51st minute to give Nigeria a much-needed victory that lifted them back into contention in Group C. Rwanda, however, were left frustrated.

Speaking after the game, Amrouche expressed sadness over the result but insisted that his team had prepared thoroughly for the clash.

According to a report by Punch News, he said:

“When we lose, we are not happy. I am not happy because the Super Eagles defeated my team.”

“We came with a plan to defeat Nigeria. We held our opponent, and we have statistics for each player during the game. Sometimes you do not force in goal but you can score with the mistake. We have learnt from this game and that would put my team to be more focused for the next time,” he added.

The defeat leaves Rwanda on eight points in Group C, slipping behind Nigeria into fourth place. With South Africa on 16 points at the top and Benin also ahead, the Amavubi’s hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup now face a tough road ahead.

Nigeria moved to 10 points with the win, keeping their campaign alive. The Super Eagles now prepare for an away trip to leaders South Africa, while Rwanda must regroup quickly if they are to stay in the race for at least a playoff spot.
