Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen has teased a potential first appearance for Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface ahead of his side’s trip to Borussia Mochengladbach in matchday three of the Bundesliga, Footynaija.com reports.
Boniface sealed a deadline-day move to Werder Bremen, joining on a season-long loan after Bayer Leverkusen deemed him surplus to requirements at the BayArena and he sought more playing time.
Boniface missed out on a place in Eric Chelle’s latest Super Eagles squad for September’s international break, giving him time to settle into his new environment, and he is now in contention to make his debut in Werder Bremen colours.

“Victor is well-received and likeable. He will certainly raise our level, and he’s improving every day,” head coach Steffen was quoted by the club’s official website.
“I’m very optimistic that he’ll get his playing time. He’ll definitely be on the bus to Gladbach. We’ll see how much he’ll play.”
Boniface joined some familiar faces at the Weserstadion in former Union St. Goilloise teammates Senne Lynen and Cameron Puertas. Lynen joined Bremen in 2024 while Puertas, like Boniface, arrived on loan this summer.
Steffen believes Lynen’s presence has been very helpful in helping the two new recruits settle in.
“It was certainly helpful for their integration. They settled in very quickly, and the boys feel at home,” he added.
” Of course, it helps to have someone at their side who can show them everything off the pitch, too. They had a great time in Belgium, and they felt tremendous respect for each other.”
Boniface will be out with a point to prove this season, both to his parent club Bayer Leverkusen and Serie A giants AC Milan, who abandoned a deal to sign the Nigeria international over concerns about his medical history.
