Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has sealed a deadline day exit from Bayer Leverkusen to join Bundesliga rivals Werder Bremen on a season-long loan, Footynaija.com reports.

Reports suggest that talks surrounding the possibility of this move commenced last night with Victor Boniface giving his consent for both clubs to proceed with negotiations and reach an agreement.

The 25-year-old striker will be looking to get his career back on track at the Wohninvest Weserstadion after falling out of favour at Bayer Leverkusen where he won the Bundesliga crown in 2023/2024.

Boniface had been tipped to secure a departure from the Bay Arena all summer, especially after erstwhile Leverkusen boss Erik ten Hag deemed the Nigerian striker surplus to requirements at the club upon his arrival earlier in the summer.

He was close to completing a permanent move to Serie A giants AC Milan but unfortunately for him, concerns surrounding his injury history forced the Rossoneri to back out of that deal after medical examinations.

However, these concerns didn’t materialize into a stumbling block with Werder Bremen as reliable transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Boniface has passed his medical tests and signed on loan with The River Islanders.

This loan spell will span the entirety of the 2025/2026 season while Bayer Leverkusen will be responsible for covering part of the Super Eagles star’s salary.

Boniface will now join fellow Super Eagles star Felix Agu in defending the colours of Werder Bremen this season. With club football currently on pause for the international break, the versatile striker will have to wait a couple of weeks to get started at his new club.
