Nigerian striker Akor Adams chose to share plaudits with his teammates after scoring his first goal in Sevilla colours to secure a narrow 1-0 La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, Footynaija.com reports.
Adams played the role of super-sub at Estadio de Vallecas in Madrid, coming off the substitutes bench in the final twenty minutes of the game before grabbing a crucial 87th minute winner to secure three vital points for Sevilla.
Sevilla actually struggled for large parts of the game, seeing only 36% of the ball and managing just 4 attempts on goal compared to Rayo Vallecano’s tally of 18 attempts. In fact, Adam’s goal was Sevilla’s only shot on target throughout the game.

Despite his maiden strike for Los Rojiblancos delivering the victory, the Nigerian striker refused to hog the spotlight and took time to credit his teammates for displaying a strong mentality during what was a difficult game.

“Before talking about myself, I think it was a great game for the team, with a strong fight and a good mentality,” Adams said in quotes revealed by Mundo Deportivo.
“I had the opportunity to come on, I was prepared and working hard, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
“We didn’t give up. We have a top mentality in the group. The coach has confidence in what we can do, and it shows in the games.”
Adams has been at Sevilla since the turn of the year but constant injuries have limited his contributions for the Spanish La Liga side so far. Now that he’s fit and firing, the club will be pleased to have his talents at their disposal.
The Nigerian will be hoping for regular opportunities to make significant contributions as Sevilla look to build some sort of momentum in La Liga. They currently place 9th in La Liga, having won 3, drawn 1 and lost 3 to register 10 points.
