Werder Bremen boss Steffen Horst has confessed that he is still coming to terms with the quality Victor Boniface has brought since arriving at the Weserstadion, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigerian forward completed a deadline-day loan move from Bayer Leverkusen after a summer filled with speculation. A switch to AC Milan collapsed over concerns about his injury record, but Bremen swooped in to hand the 23-year-old a lifeline.

Boniface has wasted no time making an impression in training. Horst confessed he has been caught off guard by the striker’s personality, sharpness and movement.

“He presents himself no differently than the players who have slightly lower market value than him,” Horst told Deich Stube.

The coach went further, pointing out how Boniface’s instincts separate him from others in the squad.

“Someone who can play football like that will certainly raise the level. I have great hope that this will become apparent and that we have signed a great player. You see it again and again when there are moves and movements that I’m not familiar with. They are exceptionally good.”

Bremen face Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia-Park on Sunday, and Boniface could be handed his first start.

The Super Eagles striker has already proven himself in the Bundesliga, scoring 22 goals and delivering 11 assists in just 42 league appearances. Bremen will now hope he hits the ground running.
