Wolverhampton Wanderers have stepped up their pursuit of Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche after submitting a formal €20m offer to Getafe, Footynaija.com reports.
The Midlands club are desperate for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United and a poor start to the Premier League season. With just two games played, Wolves have yet to score, a strong pointer to the urgency behind their bid for Uche.
Getafe now face a difficult decision. The 22-year-old is widely regarded as their most valuable asset, but the Spanish side are in a financial squeeze.
La Liga’s strict salary and registration rules have left them unable to register six of their nine summer signings, forcing the board to consider player sales. Christantus Uche, who cost just €500,000 when he joined from third-tier side Ceuta last summer, represents their most lucrative exit route.
Everton, Brentford, Leeds United and Real Sociedad have all monitored Uche, with reports suggesting the Toffees even explored a €30m package earlier in the summer. Wolves, however, are the first club to place a concrete bid on the table.

Uche’s rise over the past year has been remarkable. Thrown straight into Getafe’s first team last season, he delivered four goals and six assists in 33 appearances. His ability to combine defensive grit with forward creativity has quickly made him a sought-after talent.
Although his release clause is €25m, Wolves remain optimistic a deal can be struck closer to their €20m opening bid, especially with Getafe needing to resolve their squad registration issues before facing Sevilla next week.
Talks are ongoing between Wolves, Getafe and the player’s representatives.
Christantus Uche could become Wolves’ marquee signing before the close of the transfer window.
