Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq has reported back to Real Sociedad’s training base in Zubieta, albeit later than expected, following the conclusion of his loan spell at Valencia, Footynaija.com reports.
The 28-year-old was due to join Sergio Francisco’s squad for preseason training on Monday morning, but a delayed flight disrupted his return schedule, forcing him to miss the group session. Instead, Sadiq took part in an individual workout later in the day on the José Luis Orbegozo pitch, according to Diario vasco.
Sadiq, whose contract with the Basque club runs until 2028, finds himself at a career crossroads.
Despite returning from Valencia, where he spent the second half of last season, the forward’s role under new manager Sergio Francisco remains unclear. The incoming boss will now assess whether the Nigerian international fits into his tactical plans or whether the club should pursue a permanent transfer.
There has been growing speculation about Sadiq’s future, particularly with reports from Nigeria suggesting he is eager to move on from the La Liga side.
Real Sociedad, for their part, are believed to prefer a sale over another loan arrangement, potentially signalling the end of Sadiq’s chapter in San Sebastián.
The club also confirmed that striker Carlos Fernández missed training due to illness, while Mikel Oyarzabal, Jon Karrikaburu, and young Icelander Jon Þorsteinsson Óskarsson took part in the forward drills during Monday’s session.
