Leeds United are set for a summer transfer tussle with Premier League rivals Wolves and Brentford for Nigeria international Christantus Uche, footynaija.com reports.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has emerged as a rising star at Getafe following a breakthrough season in La Liga, where he notched four goals and six assists across 33 appearances.
Uche joined the Madrid-based club from Spanish second-tier side Ceuta last summer and is currently under contract until 2029.
However, his £20 million release clause has caught the attention of English clubs eager to bolster their attacking options.
Reports from Marca via Leeds-Live claim all three Premier League sides are “sharpening their claws” in anticipation of a summer move, although no formal bids have been submitted yet.
Leeds, newly promoted after storming the Championship with 100 points, are believed to be particularly keen on bringing Uche to Elland Road as they prepare for top-flight football once again.
Uche’s profile has risen further after his heroics in the Unity Cup final last weekend, where he scored the decisive penalty against Jamaica to help Nigeria retain the trophy.
The midfield dynamo made his Super Eagles debut in that match and is now set to feature against Russia in Friday’s international friendly in Moscow.
Chelsea reportedly considered a move for Uche in January but opted against formalising their interest. If he makes the move, Uche would join a growing list of Nigerian talents in the Premier League, including Fulham’s Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, and Nottingham Forest duo Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.
