Everton need to reinforce their “paper-thin” squad ahead of the 2025/2026 season and David Moyes’ side have reportedly set their sights on a move for experienced Super Eagles and Leicester City midfield general Wilfred Ndidi to shore up their midfield, Footynaija.com understands.
The Toffees look to be in dire straits at the moment, given their current lack of reliable midfield options heading into next season. One of their most vital midfield stars from last season, Abdoulaye Doucoure has already confirmed his departure from the Merseyside club following the expiration of his contract.
Meanwhile, the likes of Idrissa Gueye and Tim Ireogbunam currently face uncertain futures at the club. Gueye’s current contract situation has not been fully sorted although it is largely expected that the 35-year-old Senegalese will stay at the club while a loan move away from Everton is being considered in the case of Ireogbunam.

In preparation for next season, adding new faces in the middle of the park is thought to be a huge priority for the Toffees and according to a report from talkSPORT, Everton have now revived their interest in signing Leicester City midfielder Ndidi after being linked to the Nigerian international last summer.
Ndidi is available for just £9 million, due to a clause in his Leicester contract that was triggered following the club’s relegation to the Championship. The ever reliable Nigerian could prove to be a valuable squad addition for the Toffees as Moyes aims to assemble a team capable of challenging for a top-half finish in the Premier League.
Ndidi featured 28 times in the Premier League last season and registered five assists but he was ultimately unable to help the Foxes stay up. A move back to the English top-flight will certainly be an attractive prospect for the 28-year-old.
