Ademola Lookman has received dual nominations for Atalanta’s 2024–25 Goal of the Season award, following two outstanding strikes against Real Madrid and Empoli, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigeria international was a standout performer in Atalanta’s Champions League thriller against Real Madrid, where he scored a spectacular goal in a 3-2 defeat.
With the Spanish giants leading 3-1 through Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham, Lookman gave Atalanta late hope with a precise low shot that slipped through Lucas Vázquez’s legs and beat Thibaut Courtois at his near post.
His second nominated effort came in a dominant 5-0 Serie A win over Empoli. Just before half-time, Lookman latched onto a brilliant pass from Mateo Retegui, rounded the goalkeeper with composure, and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net. He added a second goal early in the second half and was named Man of the Match in both fixtures.
Atalanta’s Goal of the Season competition features a knockout format, starting with a Round of 16. Lookman’s strike against Real Madrid will face off against Marten de Roon’s goal against Genoa, while his Empoli finish is up against Ederson’s winner versus AC Milan.
Lookman, 27, has already won Atalanta’s Player of the Season award for two consecutive campaigns. Last season, he scored 22 goals and registered five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
