Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to prioritise the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer, insisting the Galatasaray forward is the proven goalscorer the Red Devils desperately need, Footynaija.com reports.
United’s attacking woes have continued this season despite replacing Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim in November 2024.
With only 37 goals scored in the Premier League – the sixth worst tally in the division – United’s strikers have struggled to deliver.
Rasmus Hojlund has just eight goals in all competitions, while Joshua Zirkzee has found the net only six times since joining last summer.
Former England captain Ferdinand believes Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, would transform United’s attack with his experience and elite-level finishing.
“We need Osimhen, we need experience, we need someone who knows how to score, we need someone who can come and show these young strikers at Man United how to do it. If I’m Man United, I’m making it happen,” Ferdinand said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

“I want someone who knows their way around the full pitch at the elite level and knows how to score at the elite level consistently. I want him here and now. Yes, Osimhen hasn’t played in the Premier League but I don’t care – I think he scores wherever he goes.”
Osimhen has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 28 goals and providing five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray. He notably netted twice in a 2-1 Turkish Cup quarter-final win over arch-rivals Fenerbahçe, managed by José Mourinho.
While United are long-time admirers, reports suggest Osimhen’s high salary and Napoli’s valuation remain key obstacles. Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked, with renewed rumours of a potential move to Saudi Arabia resurfacing after last summer’s collapsed deal with Al Ahly.
