Nigeria’s Super Eagles received a boost on Monday night as Victor Boniface, Samuel Chukwueze, Igoh Ogbu, and five other players joined the squad in Rwanda ahead of Friday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Footynaija.com reports.

The national team began assembling in Kigali on Sunday, with six players arriving alongside coaching staff. They were received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Aishatu Aliyu Musa, as preparations ramp up for the must-win encounter.

Among the early arrivals were key figures such as Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Genk forward Tolu Arokodare, Boavista defender Bruno Onyemaechi, goalkeepers Amas Obasogie and Kayode Bankole, and Niger Tornadoes star Papa Daniel, who has earned his first senior call-up.

Wasting no time, the squad held a gym session on Monday, with a video circulating online showing players working under the supervision of the coaching staff.

By Monday night, the team were reinforced by eight more arrivals: forwards Boniface, Chukwueze, and Moses Simon; defenders Jordan Torunarigha, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Ogbu; midfielder Raphael Onyedika; and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

With Nigeria sitting fifth in Group C, four points behind leaders Rwanda, the pressure is mounting on head coach Eric Chelle to guide the team back into contention. The Super Eagles are yet to register a win in this qualifying campaign, making Friday’s clash at the Amahoro Stadium a must-win fixture.

Nigeria’s recent struggles against Rwanda add to the challenge. The Eagles have failed to beat the Wasps in their last two encounters, and anything less than three points would severely dent their qualification hopes for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

A victory in Kigali could provide the momentum needed to turn the campaign around and reignite Nigeria’s hopes of making the 2026 showpiece.
