Slavia Prague have hailed Igoh Ogbu’s inclusion in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Footynaija.com reports.
The Czech club took to social media to celebrate the 24-year-old defender, who received his first senior call-up to the Super Eagles following a string of impressive performances.
Ogbu, who last featured for Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, is one of 39 players named by head coach Eric Chelle for this month’s crucial qualifiers. He will be hoping to make his senior debut for the three-time African champions.
The former Flying Eagles star will compete with William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Jordan Torunarigha, Gabriel Osho, and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi for a place in the final squad. His standout displays for Slavia Prague in the Czech top flight have earned him recognition, with the club acknowledging his achievement on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
“Igoh Ogbu earns his first senior @ng_supereagles call-up! Nigeria will face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Congratulations, Iggy! We are so proud of you!” the club wrote in the 28-word message.

Ogbu joined Slavia Prague from Norwegian side Lillestrom in January 2023 and has since made 86 appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
The centre-back began his professional career at Gombe United before moving to Europe, where he played for Rosenborg, Levanger, and Sogndal in Norway.
With Nigeria looking to reignite their World Cup qualifying campaign after a slow start, Ogbu’s maiden call-up represents a reward for his consistent performances in recent months.
