Serie A giants Juventus eye Lookman as rift with Gasperini pushes Atalanta exit closer

Ademola Lookman’s future at Atalanta appears increasingly uncertain following his fallout with long-serving manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Footynaija.com reports.

Reports from Italy suggest Juventus are monitoring the situation closely, with the Nigerian forward’s departure this summer now a strong possibility.

According to Tutto Atalanta, Lookman and Gasperini are expected to meet with the club’s hierarchy to attempt a resolution. However, the fractured relationship between the pair could make reconciliation difficult. Juventus, who have been tracking Lookman for weeks, are reportedly considering him a key target to bolster Thiago Motta’s attack.

Lookman was heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the deal fell through at the final hour.

Juventus are reportedly evaluating a potential offer, with Atalanta valuing the Nigerian at around €50 million. Given Lookman’s contract situation, any deal would likely be structured as a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy.

The forward’s future has come under further scrutiny following Atalanta’s shock Champions League exit. After losing the first leg 2-1 to Club Brugge, Gasperini’s men suffered a humbling 3-1 home defeat. Lookman, introduced as a second-half substitute, scored just 34 seconds after coming on—the fastest second-half goal by a substitute in Champions League history. However, his night turned sour when he missed a penalty 15 minutes later.

Lookman took the spot-kick ahead of designated takers Charles De Ketelaere and Mateo Retegui, but Simon Mignolet denied his effort.

Gasperini was unforgiving in his post-match assessment, publicly slamming the forward: “He’s the worst penalty taker I’ve ever seen.”

With Lookman already considering his options last summer, this latest controversy could accelerate his exit. Gasperini has a history of parting ways with players who fall out of favour, and Lookman may soon join that list.
