Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle has reportedly included exciting Getafe youngster Christantus Uche in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, Soccernet.football understands.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in crucial qualifiers next month, which will mark Chelle’s first games in charge of the former African champions.
Appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation in January, Chelle boasts a reputation as an attacking coach, following his tenure with the Mali national team.
The former Lens defender guided Mali to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations last year and has expressed optimism about reviving Nigeria’s faltering World Cup qualification campaign.
Chelle is expected to announce his first Super Eagles squad in the coming weeks, and reports suggest the Franco-Malian coach has named Uche in the provisional team list.
Uche, who joined Getafe for just €500,000 last summer, has been one of the biggest revelations in La Liga this season.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been a standout performer, registering three goals and two assists in 24 league appearances.
His goals have come against Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, and most recently, Girona, where his strike helped Getafe secure a 2-1 away win on Friday night.
The addition of Uche to the Super Eagles midfield will provide a much-needed attacking threat alongside the defensive stability of Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Raphael Onyedika.
Nigeria currently sit fifth in their World Cup qualifying group behind Rwanda, South Africa, Benin Republic, and Lesotho after four rounds of matches. Only the group winners will secure an automatic ticket to the Mundial, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico next year.
