Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim expressed frustration despite his team securing a point against Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield, Soccernet.football reports.

United took the lead through Argentine center back Lisandro Martinez, but goals from Cody Gakpo and a Mohamed Salah penalty saw Liverpool turn the game on its head.

A good spell from the visitors saw second half substitute Alejandro Garnacho setup Amad Diallo for the equalizer with United nearly snatching victory in stoppage time, but Harry Maguire’s effort went over the bar.

Despite United’s spirited display at a ground that hasn’t been kind to them in recent years, head coach Amorim admitted he was “really mad” after the game, due to his side’s inability to replicate such high-level performances in earlier matches.

“That should be a big issue for our players that even one person thinks you have the ability but not the character, we have to fight that and change that,” Amorim told Sky Sports.

“I think it is really clear. When we are focused, when we fight for every ball, when we suffer and we are tired when the game is finished, we are a good team.

“If we don’t do that all the time then we are going to lose games. That is clear to everybody. We controlled very well the tempo of the game. Every time Liverpool had a chance, we controlled and had the ball for a moment. That makes a difference.

“You could see in the game, it was not like we are not suffering all the time because we controlled the ball, sometimes winning some fouls, controlling the transitions.

“It was a good game. I’m happy for the performance not happy for the result. But I’m really, really mad because of the other games.”

Next up for Manchester United is another stern test against Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup. Amorim and United fans will certainly be hoping the team can replicate their Anfield performance when they visit North London.
