The 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup delivered thrilling action on Sunday, with Simba SC and Enyimba International FC stealing the headlines in pivotal group stage encounters, Soccernet.football reports.

In Nigeria, nine-time champions Enyimba staged a commanding 4-1 victory over Mozambique’s Black Bulls in Group D.

Seeking redemption after their humbling 3-0 defeat in Maputo on Day 3, the Aba-based team put on a masterclass.

Joseph Atule shone brightest, netting twice to anchor the Nigerians’ resurgence, while Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and former West Brom striker Brown Ideye added emphatic goals.

Despite their dominant display, Enyimba remain at the bottom of the group, tied on four points with Black Bulls but trailing due to a -2 goal difference.

The group’s other clash saw an Egyptian derby end goalless, as Al Masry held reigning champions Zamalek.

Zamalek top the group with eight points, while Al Masry sit second with five, leaving the fight for qualification still tantalizingly open.

Meanwhile, Tanzanian giants Simba SC continued their rich vein of form, defeating Tunisia’s SC Sfaxien 1-0 in a hard-fought Group A encounter.

Jean Ahoua’s clinical first-half strike secured Simba’s second win over Sfaxien, cementing their place at the top of the standings. Sfaxien, in stark contrast, remain winless and rooted at the bottom of the group.

Elsewhere in South Africa, Stellenbosch FC kept their knockout stage hopes alive with a 2-0 triumph over Angola’s Lunda Sul.

Andre de Jong’s second-half brace propelled the debutants to second in Group B, reigniting their ambitions in this historic campaign.

Over in Abidjan, ASEC Mimosas were held to a 1-1 draw by USM Alger in a Group C clash. The result sees USM Alger maintain their grip on top spot, while Mimosas trail closely in second.
