Manchester City returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over struggling Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, as Pep Guardiola marked his 500th game as manager, Soccernet.football reports.

The win, secured through goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland, propelled City back into fifth place in the Premier League standings.

It was a much-needed boost for Guardiola’s side, who had managed just one victory in their previous nine league outings.

Meanwhile, Leicester’s troubles deepened as they slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them languishing in the relegation zone.

The match began brightly for City, with Savinho settling any early nerves by netting his first Premier League goal in the opening stages.

However, despite taking the lead, City struggled to assert their dominance in a disjointed first-half display.

Leicester came close to levelling the score before the interval. Jamie Vardy’s penalty claim was denied by the offside flag after a clash with City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Moments later, James Justin rattled the post with a powerful header, ensuring City went into the break under pressure.

The Foxes continued to threaten after the restart, with Vardy narrowly missing from close range.

City’s attack, meanwhile, lacked the sharpness typically associated with Guardiola’s teams. In fact, it wasn’t until the 75th minute that City registered their first shot of the second half.

That moment proved decisive. Savinho turned provider, delivering a pinpoint cross that Erling Haaland met with a towering header to double City’s lead. The goal marked a personal milestone for the Norwegian striker, ending his month-long scoring drought.

While the victory was crucial, City’s performance was far from convincing.

Guardiola’s men, though victorious, appeared a shadow of the dominant force that has characterized much of his tenure. Nonetheless, the three points provide a platform to build on as the season progresses.

The champions are now 11 points behind League leaders Liverpool, who boast a game in hand.
