“Second half wasn’t good” – Kompany hails the key element in Bayern Munich’s thrilling win over Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany expressed his satisfaction with his team’s mentality after they secured a 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg in their first Bundesliga match of the season, Soccernet.football reports.

Bayern’s performance was a tale of two halves, with Die Roten dominating the first half but failing to convert their superiority into goals.

Despite controlling the game early on, Bayern’s lack of cutting edge in the final third allowed Wolfsburg to remain in contention.

The Bavarian side paid the price for their missed opportunities when Wolfsburg capitalized on defensive errors to score two quick goals early in the second half, turning the match on its head.

However, unlike last season, where Bayern often struggled to recover from such setbacks, Kompany’s side showed remarkable resilience.

They regrouped, continued to create chances, and their perseverance paid off as they staged a comeback to win the match.

Speaking to the media after the game, Kompany lauded his team’s mental fortitude, emphasizing that it was their strong mentality that enabled them to overturn the deficit and secure all three points.

“I enjoyed my first game as Bundesliga coach. We were dominant in the first half and didn’t concede any chances. The start of the second half wasn’t good. We conceded twice, but in the end, the mentality was good and that’s why we won the game… The fact we won shows that the mentality was there, even though not everything was perfect,” said Kompany as per iMiaSanMia.

As Bayern look to reclaim the Bundesliga title, performances like this will be crucial, especially in the face of stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen. Kompany will now look to build on this positive start when Bayern hosts Freiburg in their next league match at the Allianz Arena.
