England striker with 30 goals for Chelsea set to join AC Milan

Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is reportedly on the verge of joining AC Milan from AS Roma in a deal that could see Alexis Saelemaekers head in the opposite direction,Soccernet.football reports.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the swap deal between the two Serie A clubs is close to being finalised, with Roma set to receive £8.4 million along with the Belgian winger.

Abraham, who has been with Roma since leaving Chelsea in 2022, has faced a challenging period after suffering a severe knee injury at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Despite featuring in all of Roma’s pre-season friendlies and scoring in a 5-2 victory over Milan in May, the 26-year-old has struggled to regain the confidence of his current manager.

The Englishman had an impressive start to his career at Roma, scoring 27 goals in 53 appearances during his debut season and helping the club win the Europa Conference League. It was an excellent goal return that was more impressive than his 30 goals in 82 appearances for Chelsea’s senior team.

However, his momentum was disrupted by the knee injury, which kept him sidelined for 10 months. Upon his return, Abraham praised manager Daniele De Rossi’s leadership, highlighting his ability to bring out the best in the players.

As the transfer window nears its conclusion, Abraham is reportedly keen on the move to AC Milan, where he would compete for a spot alongside Alvaro Morata in the Rossoneri’s attack. This transfer would mark the sixth club in Abraham’s career, following stints at Chelsea, Aston Villa, Swansea, Bristol City, and Roma.

Saelemaekers, 25, who spent the last season on loan at Bologna, is expected to join Roma as part of the deal. This transfer could also lead to a potential exit for Luka Jovic, who might find himself out of favour in Milan’s crowded attacking lineup.

Negotiations are ongoing, but with Abraham and Saelemaekers both agreeing to the move, the deal could be completed soon.
