Last season, Ancelotti frequently deployed a 4-4-2 diamond formation, especially after Jude Bellingham joined the squad. Bellingham played at the tip of the diamond, flanked by attackers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes.
However, the arrival of Mbappé necessitates a tactical shift. According to reports from Marca, Ancelotti plans to revert to a 4-3-3 formation, a familiar setup from his past tenures.
The key question Ancelotti must address is how to position Vinicius Jr and Mbappé. Both players prefer the left wing, but indications suggest that Mbappé may take on a more central role.
This arrangement would allow Vinicius Jr to retain his favoured position on the left, while the right wing is likely to see competition among players such as Arda Güler, Brahim Diaz, and Rodrygo, with the latter expected to start the season in that role.
Despite concerns that Rodrygo might be sidelined due to Mbappé’s inclusion, it is actually Jude Bellingham who will experience the most significant positional change.
Bellingham will move to a deeper role in the midfield, likely enjoying considerable freedom to advance and support the attack.
