Borussia Dortmund have made a significant move in the transfer market, securing the services of Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart on a four-year deal, Soccernet.football reports.

At 28 years old, the Guinea striker is coming off a career-best season, netting 28 goals and playing a pivotal role in Stuttgart’s second-place Bundesliga finish and their first UEFA Champions League qualification since 2009.

Here are ten key things every Dortmund fan should know about their new star striker.

  • Record-Breaking Season at Stuttgart
In the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, Guirassy scored 28 goals, placing him second in the league’s top scorers’ list, just behind Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane. This impressive tally helped Stuttgart secure a runner-up finish and a Champions League spot for the first time in over a decade.
  • Record-Setting Start to 2023/24
Guirassy had a blistering start to the 2023/24 season, scoring ten goals in Stuttgart’s first five matches. This feat included a hat-trick against Mainz, tying a record set by Robert Lewandowski for the most goals in the opening five games of a Bundesliga season.
  • Historic Performances
Guirassy’s hat-trick in just 15 minutes against Wolfsburg set a new Bundesliga record for most goals in the first seven matches of a season, surpassing the previous record held by Lewandowski. This kind of explosive performance is what Dortmund fans can look forward to.
  • Early Challenges at Köln
Guirassy’s time at 1. FC Köln was marked by frequent injuries. He underwent meniscus surgery shortly after joining and faced various muscular problems that limited his appearances. Despite these setbacks, he showed glimpses of his talent, notably scoring key goals in the Bundesliga and Europa League.
  • Proven Goal-Scorer Across Leagues
Guirassy has consistently found the net across different leagues. From his early days in France with Laval, Lille, and Amiens, to his stint in Germany and later in France with Rennes, Guirassy has demonstrated his ability to adapt and score goals in varied competitive environments.
  • Champions League Experience
Guirassy scored his first Champions League goal while playing for Rennes, making history as the club’s first-ever scorer in the competition. This experience will be invaluable as Dortmund looks to make a deep run in Europe’s premier club competition.
  • Versatile and Complete Striker
Guirassy is a complete striker. He is known for his clinical finishing, aerial ability, and physical presence, making him a constant threat in front of goal. His versatility allows him to play effectively as a lone striker or in a two-man attack.
  • International Experience with Guinea
Born in France to Guinean parents, Guirassy initially represented France at the youth level but later opted to play for Guinea at the senior level. He made his debut in a friendly against South Africa in March 2022 and was part of Guinea’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
  • Overcoming Adversity
Guirassy has shown resilience and a never-give-up attitude throughout his career. From overcoming injuries at Köln to making a name for himself at Amiens and Rennes, and later excelling at Stuttgart, his journey reflects determination and perseverance, traits that will endear him to the Dortmund faithful.
  • Ready for the Big Stage
With his proven track record and experience, Guirassy is well-equipped to handle the pressures and expectations at Borussia Dortmund. His arrival boosts Dortmund’s attacking options and adds depth to their squad, crucial for competing on multiple fronts.
