George Ilenikhena is strengthening his case for a bigger role in the Super Eagles attack after delivering an impressive performance for Al-Ittihad in their 4-1 victory over Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, Footynaija reports.
The Nigerian forward scored a goal and provided an assist to earn the official Man of the Match award on Tuesday. His contribution helped Al-Ittihad return to winning ways after two consecutive defeats.
Reflecting on the victory, Ilenikhena stressed the importance of responding positively to the team’s setbacks.

“It is very important for us to win this game after losing two games. It is very important to react and we reacted in the best way, so we are very happy,” he told the Saudi press.
The 20-year-old has now registered a goal or assist in each of his last four Saudi top-flight appearances.
His performances could strengthen his prospects of earning more opportunities with the Super Eagles under coach Eric Chelle, although displacing Victor Osimhen remains a different challenge.
Osimhen remains Nigeria’s established centre-forward, offering physical strength, aggressive pressing, aerial ability and clinical finishing. His experience and proven goalscoring record give him a strong advantage in the competition for the starting position.
Ilenikhena, however, brings youthful energy, intelligent movement and an ability to finish chances while creating opportunities for teammates. His development could give Chelle another option against opponents who defend deep or leave space behind their defensive lines.
The youngster also demonstrated a team-first attitude when discussing his substitution in the 73rd minute, when Youssef En-Nesyri came on and scored twice late in the match.
“The coach changed. Everybody will help the team in the best way he can. It is what we did today that we won,” Ilenikhena said.
After returning from a minor injury, the former Monaco forward will hope to maintain his impressive form and turn his club performances into a stronger case for international recognition.
