Lionel Messi has shared his thoughts about Argentina’s upcoming Copa America final against Colombia on Sunday, Soccernet.football reports.
Argentina are aiming for their 16th Copa America title, which would make them the most successful team in the competition’s history. The 2022 World Cup champions have been in excellent form, winning all their matches and conceding just one goal in five games.
Colombia, on the other hand, are looking to win the Copa America for only the second time. They have been impressive in this tournament, with James Rodriguez performing particularly well.
Despite Colombia’s form, Argentina are expected to have the upper hand, especially with Messi in the team.
Messi scored in Argentina’s 2-0 semi-final win against Canada and was named Player of the Match.
Speaking to Fox Sports Argentina, Messi expressed confidence in his team’s preparation for the final.
“I am calm waiting for the day to come as always. I am much calmer than before after everything we lived through and what we went through,” said Messi. He emphasized the importance of enjoying each moment and staying focused on the match.
Messi also acknowledged Colombia’s strength.
Colombia topped Group D ahead of Brazil and defeated Uruguay to reach the final for the first time since 2001, the last time they won the tournament.
