Top 5: Chelsea’s best players of the 2023/2024 season

Chelsea endured a really disappointing first half of the 2023/2024 season, failing to grind out expected results and languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League standings despite investing heavily last summer.

The Blues however experienced a change in fortunes towards the end of the season, following a positive run of results which saw them climb up the league standings and eventually finish in sixth place.

Despite this campaign being an upgrade on the last with Chelsea securing a place in the Conference League, the club has parted ways with head coach Mauricio Pochetino, opting to move forward in a different direction.

Soccernet.football has ranked Chelsea’s best players of the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign.

5. Moises Caicedo

The Ecuadorian endured a rocky start to life at Stamford Bridge, having signed for the Blues last summer for £115m but he has finally begun to settle into life at Chelsea, finding match fitness after a disrupted summer.

As the season wound down, there were signs of the form that convinced Chelsea to spend such a substantial amount.

The Ecuadorian quietly went about his work in the middle of the park but he still has a long way to go to justify his heavy price tag.

Caicedo scored one goal and provided three assists in 34 Premier League appearances this season.

4. Noni Madueke

After a strong finish to the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign, it took some time for Madueke to earn Pochettino’s trust at the start of this season with the forward suffering further setback through injury.

However, upon his return from injury, Madueke became a key figure for Pochettino’s Blues, making several vital contributions during Chelsea’s late-season resurgence.

The 23-year-old winger finished this campaign in strong fashion, contributing 5 goals and 2 assists across 23 Premier League appearances this season.

3. Nicolas Jackson

The Senegal international who joined Chelsea from Villareal last summer was one of Pochettino’s most productive players in the Premier League this season.

The 22-year-old striker was very important for the Blues in attack throughout the season, popping up at the right places in big moments and scoring vital goals for his team as they clawed their way up the league standings.

Football is a game of fine margins, and with a few different turns of events, Jackson might have topped these rankings. He notched 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 Premier League appearances this season.

2. Conor Gallagher

Gallagher was one of Pochettino’s most trusted servants throughout the season, even receiving the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James and the England international repaid his manager’s faith with really solid performances.

Following a slow start, the determined midfielder fought to become a crucial player in Pochettino’s system, improving week by week. The notion that Chelsea might try to sell him again in the upcoming transfer window now seems increasingly absurd.

Gallagher contributed in attack for the Blues with 5 goals and 7 assists in 37 Premier League appearances this season.

1. Cole Palmer

The English youngster who signed for Chelsea from Manchester City last summer went on to become arguably the best signing of the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign.

Palmer was instrumental in the Blues’ late drive for European football, remarkably netting 10 goals in five league matches at one point.

His exceptionally consistent form this season saw him tally 33 goal involvements across 33 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season along with 5 MOTM performances.

Palmer will no doubt secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championship.
