Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arranged a friendly against Tanzania after their planned pre-WAFCON clash with Ghana was called off, Footynaija reports.
The match will be Nigeria’s last chance to prepare before the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations begins in Morocco later this month.
Tanzania confirmed the fixture through head coach Bakari Nyundo Shime and CECAFA, although the Nigeria Football Federation has not yet announced the kickoff time or released full details.
The change became necessary after Nigeria’s high-profile meeting with Ghana’s Black Queens was cancelled. The two rivals had been due to play in Casablanca on July 18, but the match could not go ahead because the Super Falcons did not have enough players in camp.
Several Nigerian stars based abroad arrived late after their clubs delayed releasing them. FIFA rules only require clubs to release players six days before the start of a major tournament, making it difficult for coach Justine Madugu to assemble his full squad early enough. The cancellation was later confirmed by the Super Falcons through their official social media pages.
The Tanzania game now gives Madugu one final opportunity to test his players and improve team chemistry before the competition starts. Nigeria will rely on experienced names such as captain Rasheedat Ajibade, veteran striker Asisat Oshoala and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie as they chase another continental title.
The Super Falcons will begin their Group C campaign against Malawi on July 28 before facing Zambia on August 1 and Egypt on August 5. Tanzania, meanwhile, have been drawn in a tough Group B with defending champions South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
