Former Blues midfielder Emanuel Petit has advised Chelsea against pursuing a new striker during the summer transfer window as Nicolas Jackson’s recent form alleviates the need for reinforcements, Soccernet.football reports.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £30 million last summer, has made a significant impact in his debut season, netting 16 goals across all competitions, including 13 in the Premier League.

Despite Jackson’s success, speculation has linked Chelsea with moves for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in the upcoming transfer window.

The Blues are a long-time admirer of Osimhen after he powered Napoli to a historic Scudetto last season, picking the Serie A top scorer award on the way. The Nigerian forward, who could be on his way to the Premier League this summer, will, however, cost any suitor upwards of 100 million pounds.

Isak would be a cheaper and more reliable option, though, with the Swede star a proven Premier League performer. The 24-year-old forward has 20 EPL goals in only 27 games, fuelling the Magpies’ European hopes.

However, Petit has urged Chelsea to reconsider making a move for any of these top strikers, pointing to Jackson’s recent fine form as a reason to avoid adding further pressure on the young striker.

“Chelsea do not need [Victor] Osimhen or [Alexander] Isak,” former Arsenal and Chelsea star Petit told Grosvenor Sport, as per Football London.

“We all know about the No.9 curse at Chelsea, and in the last couple of months, we’ve seen what [Nicolas] Jackson can do.

“There’s no need to put more pressure on him by signing someone like Isak. You need competition in every position, but when you have someone like Jackson starting to emerge, don’t put pressure on him and let him explode.

“For me, if I’m Chelsea, I’m not buying Isak as Jackson is already beginning to flourish.”

Jackson’s recent performances have reinforced Petit’s argument, with the striker netting three goals in the past two games against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham.

Chelsea’s overall poor form this campaign may, however, force the club owners to consider injecting more quality into the side.

With three league games left, the Blues are seated in 7th position, having amassed only 54 points, six fewer than Tottenham in 5th.
