Nineteen-year-old Jeremy Agbonifo made an immediate impact on his debut by scoring within a minute of his introduction, helping RC Lens secure a 2-0 victory over Montpellier at the Stade de la Mosson, Soccernet.football reports.

Agbonifo, who joined Lens from BK Häcken just three days ago, began the match on the bench. The game commenced favourably for Lens, with M’Bala Nzola finding the net in the first minute.

Controversy soon followed as VAR disallowed a potential second goal by Goduine Koyalipou. Tensions escalated, leading to the expulsions of both managers — Montpellier’s Jean-Louis Gasset and Lens’ Will Still — for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The match remained tightly contested until the 60th minute when Agbonifo was brought on. Within seconds, the Nigerian-Swedish winger scored, doubling Lens’ lead and marking a memorable start to his tenure with the club.

Fellow Nigerian midfielder Hamzat Ojediran also made a late appearance, coming on in the 90th minute. This victory marks Lens’ ninth league win, elevating them to fifth place with 33 points.

Who is Jeremy Agbonifo?

Born on October 24, 2005, in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jeremy Nosakhare Agbonifo is a winger known for his speed and physicality. He began his youth career with BK Häcken before a stint with FC Porto’s academy from 2021 to 2024.

Returning to BK Häcken in February 2024, Agbonifo quickly established himself in the first team, making his Allsvenskan debut in July 2024. His impressive performances in both domestic and European competitions caught the attention of several clubs.

In January 2025, he joined RC Lens on loan with an obligation to buy, with the deal reportedly valued at €7.23 million, potentially rising to €8.71 million with bonuses.
