Amazon Prime has issued an apology to Liverpool manager Arne Slot following a controversial incident during the Reds’ dramatic 3-3 draw against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, Soccernet.football reports.

The high-octane clash saw Newcastle take the lead twice through Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon before Mohamed Salah’s brilliance helped Liverpool wrestle control.

However, Fabian Schar’s late equaliser, aided by a Caoimhin Kelleher error, ensured the spoils were shared, cutting Liverpool’s lead at the Premier League summit to seven points.

In the aftermath, Amazon Prime presenter Dan Walker sparked controversy by claiming Slot visited the referee’s room at half-time.

The claim added fuel to an already tense situation, with referee Andrew Madley drawing criticism for his decisions, including blowing the final whistle during a promising Newcastle counterattack.

When asked about the referee’s decisions, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe remarked, “I don’t think I’ll go there. I think that’s a can of worms. I tend to focus on my team.”

However, subsequent reports clarified that Slot had spoken with the referee in the tunnel rather than entering the officials’ room.

TheTimes revealed Amazon Prime had apologised to Slot, attributing the misinformation to a production error.

The platform reportedly reached out to Slot personally to express regret for the misunderstanding.

Slot reflected on the match, stating, “In the second half, especially after we scored for 1-1, I thought we were really impressive… Being 3-2 up one minute before the end, it feels like a disappointment to drop two points.”

Liverpool will look to bounce back on Saturday when they face local rivals Everton at Goodison Park.
