Lionel Messi, a name synonymous with FC Barcelona’s golden era, recently reflected on the figures who shaped his remarkable journey at the Catalan club, Soccernet.football reports.

During an interview reported by MundoDeportivo, Messi revealed two individuals who left the most profound impact on his career: Pep Guardiola and Ronaldinho.

“I believe there are two people who influenced me greatly for different reasons,” Messi shared.

“Pep, because I had him as a coach for many years, and we achieved incredible things that we could never have imagined. And Ronaldinho, for how he welcomed me, how he helped me — it was incredibly valuable in my early days with the first team.”

Messi’s tribute to Guardiola is unsurprising, given the coach’s role during Barcelona’s historic era of dominance.

Under Guardiola, Messi won an astonishing array of trophies, including two UEFA Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, and multiple domestic and international accolades.

Equally significant was Ronaldinho’s mentorship during Messi’s breakthrough, as the duo lifted two La Ligas, a Champions League, and two Spanish Super Cups together.

The Argentine also acknowledged other key figures from his Barça days, adding, “I also fondly remember Andrés (Iniesta) and Xavi as teammates, as well as the three who are now with me in Miami (Busquets, Alba, and Suárez), who are also dear friends. And, of course, a special mention for Tito Vilanova, whom we miss so much.”

These names were central to Barcelona’s illustrious history, from the iconic midfield trio of Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets to Vilanova’s 100-point La Liga triumph.
