Victor Osimhen has taken his first step towards a return for Galatasaray after missing Nigeria duty with injury, with the striker joining part of Tuesday’s team training before continuing his recovery programme individually, Footynaija.com reports.
The 27-year-old has been out since September 4, when he suffered a right adductor injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over İstanbul Başakşehir. Osimhen had scored the opening goal before leaving the game in the 33rd minute.
Galatasaray later confirmed that medical examinations found an advanced-moderate strain with bleeding in the right adductor muscle group. The injury ruled him out of the club’s matches against Sporting CP, Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
His absence also meant he missed Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The Super Eagles striker had initially been included in Eric Chelle’s squad, but he was withdrawn after his recovery took longer than expected.
Osimhen joins Galatasaray training
As confirmed by Le Marca Sports, Osimhen took part in a section of the session with his teammates before moving to an individual programme prepared for him as the club continued preparations for Friday’s meeting with Kasımpaşa.
The development is a further step in his recovery after several weeks away from competitive action.
The striker is reportedly working towards a return during an important period for Galatasaray, with the Kasımpaşa fixture coming four days before the Turkish champions face Barcelona in the Champions League on October 13.
There are suggestions that Galatasaray could manage Osimhen’s minutes against Kasımpaşa if he is deemed ready, while the bigger target is to have him fully prepared for Barcelona. His condition will continue to be assessed before any decision is made.
Before the injury, Osimhen had started the season strongly, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first four appearances for Galatasaray.
