Victor Osimhen scored again for Galatasaray, but his latest goal was followed by an injury scare as the Turkish champions survived a thrilling 3-2 win against İstanbul Başakşehir, Footynaija reports.
The Nigeria striker opened the scoring after 16 minutes at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium. He received a pass from Lucas Torreira before finishing firmly to put Galatasaray in front.
However, Osimhen’s night ended just 17 minutes later. The 27-year-old appeared to suffer a muscle problem and signalled towards the Galatasaray bench before being replaced by Barış Alper Yılmaz in the 33rd minute.
The exact nature and seriousness of the injury have not yet been confirmed. Medical scans will be needed to determine whether Osimhen will miss any upcoming matches.
His early departure came after another excellent start to the season. Osimhen has now scored in all four of his league appearances for Galatasaray, taking his total to six goals.
He scored twice against Çorum FK, twice against Erzurumspor and once against Göztepe before finding the net again against Başakşehir. He also has two assists in the league.
Galatasaray had to fight hard for the three points after Osimhen left the field. Eldor Shomurodov equalised from the penalty spot before Torreira restored Galatasaray’s lead.
Davinson Sánchez then scored an own goal in the 76th minute to make it 2-2. The visitors eventually found the winner in the 90th minute when Gabriel Sara struck to complete a dramatic victory. Başakşehir also had a player sent off late in the match.
The result keeps Galatasaray unbeaten after four league matches, with three wins and one draw giving them 10 points at the top of the table.
For Nigeria, however, the main concern will be Osimhen’s fitness. The Super Eagles have important Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches coming up this month, making the striker’s medical assessment particularly important.
