Chibuike Nwaiwu has been warned to stay out of trouble when Trabzonspor host Galatasaray in a high-profile Turkish Super Lig match on Saturday, Footynaija reports.
The Nigeria international is one booking away from a one-match suspension, putting his availability for Trabzonspor’s next league game at risk. Nwaiwu has already collected three yellow cards in the opening five rounds of the 2026-27 Super Lig season.
The 23-year-old defender was booked against Istanbul Başakşehir, Amedspor, and Gençlerbirliği. He escaped a fourth booking during Trabzonspor’s 1-0 defeat by Konyaspor on 12 September, allowing him to remain available for the Galatasaray fixture.
That disciplinary record has made Nwaiwu a concern for Trabzonspor’s technical staff ahead of one of the biggest matches of the league campaign. Turkish reports say the club have told the centre-back to avoid an unnecessary booking against Galatasaray.
A fourth yellow card would mean a one-match suspension under the league’s disciplinary rules, meaning Nwaiwu could miss Trabzonspor’s next league fixture against Samsunspor after the international break.
The defender’s disciplinary situation has become more significant because he has been a regular starter for Trabzonspor. He has started all five of their Super Lig matches this season and has played 443 minutes in the competition.
Nwaiwu also has a recent history of disciplinary problems in European competition. He was sent off late in Trabzonspor’s Europa League qualifying first leg against Ferencváros on 20 August and subsequently missed the return fixture.
Saturday’s match at Papara Park is also a major test for Trabzonspor’s new manager Thomas Reis, who will take charge for the first time after replacing Fatih Tekke. Trabzonspor have seven points from five league matches, while Galatasaray entered the weekend top of the table with 13 points.
Nwaiwu will then turn his attention to international duty, having been selected by Nigeria for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
