Victor Boniface has become the second Super Eagles star in a matter of days to attract attention after making a major change to his Instagram account, Footynaija reports.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker deleted every post from his Instagram page on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, before sharing a personal message about his life, faith and uncertainty.
The move came shortly after fellow Nigeria international Alex Iwobi also cleared Fulham-related content from his Instagram account following a difficult start to the Premier League season.

Boniface’s decision came at a difficult point in his club career. The 25-year-old returned to Bayer Leverkusen this summer after spending the 2025-26 season on loan at Werder Bremen. His spell in Bremen was badly affected by a knee problem, and he finished the Bundesliga campaign with 11 appearances and no goals before undergoing surgery.
His return to Leverkusen was supposed to give him a fresh start. Boniface impressed during parts of pre-season, but concerns about his fitness continued into the new campaign.
Leverkusen coach Carles Martínez later explained that Boniface’s knee was still not fully ready. The striker was left out of the club’s European squad, meaning he will not play in the Europa League group phase. Leverkusen begin that campaign against Slovenian champions Celje on September 16.
Boniface has also had limited league involvement. He has made only one appearance in the 2026-27 league season, playing five minutes in Leverkusen’s clash with Elversberg on August 29.
Against that background, Boniface suddenly wiped his Instagram grid clean. The former Union SG striker removed all his Instagram posts without giving a public explanation. He then posted an emotional message directed at God.
The message said he did not know what was happening in his life but was thankful that God had stayed with him through both good and difficult periods. He also said his life had not always been easy and described God as his everything.
Alex Iwobi deletes Fulham posts
Iwobi’s Instagram change has created a separate but striking social-media story around the Super Eagles.
The Fulham midfielder appeared to remove Fulham-related photographs and videos from his Instagram page after the club lost 3-2 to Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage on September 5.
The defeat completed a difficult opening run for Álvaro Arbeloa’s team. Fulham also lost 2-3 to Chelsea and 0-1 away to Sunderland, leaving them without a point from their first three Premier League matches. They have conceded seven goals during that run.
Iwobi played in all three league matches. He completed 90 minutes against Chelsea and Sunderland before playing 82 minutes against Palace. He has yet to score or assist in the Premier League this season.
The Palace defeat made the social-media activity more noticeable because another Fulham midfielder, Emile Smith Rowe, also appeared to remove club-related content from his Instagram account.
Iwobi’s Instagram changes have therefore been linked by supporters to Fulham’s poor start, but there is no verified evidence that the Nigerian is protesting against Arbeloa or wants to leave the club.
The midfielder’s situation also matters to Nigeria because he is an important part of Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad.
Iwobi reached 100 appearances for Nigeria against Portugal in June, joining Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa in the country’s century club. Nigeria now have an important AFCON qualifying campaign ahead, with Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau in Group L.
