Taiwo Awoniyi is closing in on a fresh Premier League chapter with Coventry City, with the Nottingham Forest striker now set to join fellow Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka at the newly promoted club, Footynaija.com reports.
The move would give Awoniyi a chance to reset his career after a difficult period at Forest. The Nigerian joined the club from Union Berlin in 2022 and became an important part of their return to the Premier League, but injuries and competition for places have limited his impact in recent seasons.
Coventry, meanwhile, are preparing for their first Premier League campaign in 25 years. Frank Lampard guided the Sky Blues to the Championship title last season, and the club have since moved to strengthen the squad for the much higher demands of the top flight.

Onyeka is already part of that plan. The midfielder first joined Coventry on loan in January and played 14 times as Lampard’s side secured promotion. His performances helped earn him a permanent move from Brentford in June.
Awoniyi could now follow his international team-mate to the CBS Arena.
Awoniyi edges closer to Coventry City move
Fabrizio Romano reports that Coventry have reached an agreement with Forest to sign Awoniyi on a permanent transfer, with the striker’s medical now taking place. Barring any problem with the medical, Awoniyi will leave Forest and begin a new chapter with Coventry.
Onyeka played an important role in Coventry’s promotion push after joining midway through last season. He made 14 appearances, including 13 starts, and scored once. His goal came in a 3-2 win over Derby County in April.
Awoniyi’s arrival would give Lampard another Nigerian international as he builds a squad for the step up.
The striker brings Premier League experience of his own. He scored 10 league goals during the 2022/23 season as Forest avoided relegation in their first campaign back in the top flight. His pace, strength and ability to attack space have made him a useful option when fit.
