Anthony Dennis appears to be closing in on a long-awaited move away from Göztepe after a major change in the Turkish club’s stance, with Coventry City still linked with the highly rated Nigerian midfielder, Footynaija.com reports.
The 22-year-old is one of Nigeria’s most sought-after young players after an impressive campaign in the Turkish Super Lig. Dennis established himself as a regular in Göztepe’s midfield, making 33 league appearances while contributing three goals and three assists, performances that attracted interest from clubs in England, Belgium, Germany and Spain.
Coventry have consistently been mentioned among the frontrunners since the summer transfer window opened, with reports suggesting Frank Lampard is keen to strengthen his midfield ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League. However, Göztepe’s valuation of the player initially proved a stumbling block, with the Turkish side reluctant to lose one of their standout performers.

According to ScoreNigeria, Göztepe are now pushing to complete Dennis’ departure because he has entered the final year of his contract. A source close to the midfielder said an agreement is expected “in a few days”, raising fresh hope that the transfer saga is approaching its conclusion.
The latest development is a significant shift from earlier in the window. Göztepe had previously resisted offers while hoping to maximise the midfielder’s value, but with the risk of losing him for nothing next year, the club are now understood to be more willing to sanction a sale. That change could hand Coventry the opportunity they have been waiting for after maintaining their interest throughout the summer.
Dennis’ rise has also brought him onto the radar of the Super Eagles. The Kaduna-born midfielder earned a call-up during Eric Chelle’s first months in charge and is regarded as one of the country’s brightest prospects in the holding midfield role, thanks to his composure on the ball and ability to shield the defence.
While Coventry remain the club most closely associated with the Nigerian, competition has not disappeared. Anderlecht, Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Villarreal have all been credited with interest at different stages of the transfer window.
