Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly stepped up their interest in Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez after making fresh contact with Rangers over a potential summer transfer, Footynaija.com reports.
Fernandez has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Rangers from Peterborough United last summer, establishing himself as one of the Scottish Premiership’s most promising defenders during his debut season at Ibrox.
According to Glasgow World, the Bundesliga outfit are very keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old centre-back and have intensified their pursuit ahead of the new campaign.

However, Rangers are not prepared to let the Nigerian international leave on the cheap. The Scottish giants are reportedly demanding a fee of around £25 million, with add-ons potentially pushing the total package beyond £30 million.
Such a deal would shatter Rangers’ current transfer record, eclipsing the £20 million received from Ajax for Calvin Bassey in 2022.
The reported valuation represents a remarkable increase on the £3.5 million Rangers paid to sign Fernandez just 12 months ago.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Fernandez impressed throughout the 2025/2026 campaign with his commanding aerial presence, physicality and eye for goal. He registered five goals in 33 appearances across all competitions while helping Rangers secure a third-place league finish.

His performances have also earned him recognition at international level, with the defender already earning three caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Leverkusen are not alone in the race for his signature, with Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge also credited with strong interest in recent weeks.
With three years remaining on his current contract, Rangers remain in a strong negotiating position as interest in one of their most valuable assets continues to grow.
