Brighton’s growing reputation as a destination for elite young talents played a major role in Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna turning down a far more lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, Footynaija reports.

According to reports from Sweden, the 18-year-old winger chose a move to the Premier League despite strong interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah, who were prepared to match Brighton’s transfer fee and offer him significantly higher wages.

Zadok has enjoyed a rapid rise since arriving at Swedish side AIK from Nigerian academy Ikon Allah FA in 2025. After breaking into the senior team earlier this year, the youngster quickly became one of the standout performers in the Allsvenskan, attracting scouts from across Europe.

His impressive displays sparked a transfer battle involving Brighton, Newcastle United and Chelsea. While both Newcastle and Chelsea reportedly had offers of around £21 million plus add-ons accepted by AIK, negotiations over personal terms failed to produce an agreement.

Brighton eventually won the race by striking a deal worth up to €30 million, including bonuses. The transfer represents the biggest sale in AIK’s history and underlines the Premier League club’s commitment to recruiting emerging stars from around the world.

Despite the financial appeal of a move to Saudi Arabia, Zadok was convinced that Brighton provided the best environment to continue his development and establish himself at the highest level of European football.

The Nigeria-born winger has now signed a long-term contract at the Amex Stadium that will keep him with the Seagulls until 2031, as he prepares for the next chapter of his promising career.
