Nigerian starlet Zadok Yohanna penned an emotional farewell to Swedish Allsvenskan outfit AIK Stockholm after completing a “dream” move to English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, Footynaija.com reports.
Despite joining AIK less than one year ago, Yohanna’s rapid development and eye-catching performances for the Swedish side have earned him a big switch to arguably the most competitive league in all of Europe.
Brighton announced his arrival on Saturday, with the teenage sensation costing the Seagulls €28 million in transfer fees and putting pen to paper on a long-term deal that ties his future to the AMEX for the next five years.
In his farewell statement posted on AIK’s official website, the 18-year-old Nigerian thanked AIK for playing a key role in his overall development. He also expressed gratitude to his former teammates and coaching staff.
“Almost a year ago, a dream came true when I signed my first first-team contract with AIK. From my first day at AIK, I have enjoyed every second, but now another dream has also come true,” the statement read.
“Even though I am now leaving AIK, I will always carry with me what the club has meant to me and my development both as a footballer and a person. Thanks to all the players, managers and supporters who have supported me.”
Before completing his move to Brighton, Yohanna was also the subject of transfer interest from both Newcastle United and Chelsea as both clubs looked to hijack the move. However, the Ikon Allah Academy graduate revealed after sealing the move that the Seagulls were always the priority.
Yohanna produced nine goal contributions (5G, 4A) in 18 appearances across all competitions for AIK and he’ll now be relishing the opportunity to prove himself in arguably the toughest top flight league in Europe.
