Nigeria Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has finally revealed where her loyalties lie ahead of Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest, Footynaija reports.
European football’s biggest club match will take place at Puskás Aréna, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 pm Nigerian time. The match brings together two of the continent’s strongest sides, as Arsenal chase a historic double after winning the Premier League title, while PSG attempt to retain the Champions League crown they won last season.
Mikel Arteta’s side are appearing in only the second Champions League final in the club’s history after losing to Barcelona in 2006. The Gunners arrive in Hungary unbeaten in Europe this season and eager to avenge last year’s semi-final defeat to PSG.
However, the occasion has created a personal dilemma for Ajibade.
The Super Falcons skipper has never hidden her admiration for Arsenal and has regularly shown support for the North London club. Yet she now has strong ties to PSG after joining the French giants last summer following the expiry of her contract with Atlético Madrid Femenino.
Although many supporters wondered whether she would back her long-time favourite club, Ajibade has now made her position clear while travelling to Hungary for the final.
Posting on social media before boarding her flight to Budapest, the Nigerian forward hinted that her PSG allegiance would take priority on the night.
She wrote: “Off to Budapest. Supporting the boys in the Champions League Final. Pls don’t ask me which side i am on…. my jersey speaks for itself 😉 Allez Paris.”
Ajibade has enjoyed a frustrating first season settling into life in Paris. Despite adapting quickly on and off the pitch, silverware proved elusive in her debut campaign. PSG were beaten 4-1 by Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France Féminine final and also suffered elimination at the hands of Paris FC in the Division 1 Féminine play-offs.
