Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled his starting lineup for the Super Eagles’ Unity Cup final clash against Jamaica, with the coach keeping faith in the core of the side that secured a place in the championship match, Footynaija reports.
Nigeria take on the Reggae Boyz at The Valley, the home of Charlton Athletic in London, on Saturday evening as they look to successfully defend the Unity Cup title they won previously.
Chelle has resisted the temptation to make major changes after a convincing semi-final performance against Zimbabwe. The Super Eagles booked their place in the final with a 2-0 victory, thanks to a brace from Femi Azeez, whose impressive display earned him another place in the starting team.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo also retains his position after helping Nigeria keep a clean sheet in the last match. The coach’s decision reflects his confidence in a group of players who have already shown they can handle the pressure of knockout football during the tournament.
Jamaica arrive in the final with momentum of their own after defeating India 2-0 in the other semi-final. Kaheim Dixon and Courtney Clarke were on target for the Caribbean side, setting up a mouth-watering meeting between two teams that have looked strong throughout the competition.
The final comes after a busy day of football at The Valley. Zimbabwe secured third place earlier in the day with a victory over India, while supporters inside the stadium were also treated to a live screening of the UEFA Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain before the Unity Cup showpiece.
With Nigeria aiming to retain their crown and Jamaica determined to lift the trophy for the first time, all eyes will be on the Super Eagles as Chelle’s men seek another successful night on English soil.
